Reel um N Guide Service By Lynn Atkinson
10/07/07 Sam Rayburn is 160.40 and still falling. The water temperature has been in the low to mid 80s. The water has been clear to around 2ft with a slight algae tint in some places. As you move up the rivers it has a darker stain .
We have been catching some nice fish this week, even though it has been a little tough, There are a lot of small fish that have pulled up in the shallows and fight like they going to pull you out of the boat. The hydrilla has been the key to finding these fish. There are a few fish holding on the pepper grass and others moving back into the lily pads. I look for this cool front and the full moon to make these fish get active again.
In the morning I have been starting around the heavy grass with Stanley Frogs and working the Yellow Magic and Pop Rs around the Pockets . As the bite slows down back out to the 1st edge and roll a Spinner bait or crankbait over the edge of the grass. If you get a bluebird sky you may have to slow down even more and go to a Whacky Worm or C/R . It maybe a good ideal to check the pads in the middle of the day to see if any bass have moved into them.
There are a lot of schooling fish around the bridge and main lake points that can be a lot of fun to chase down. The best bait I have found is a chrome or gold spoon. Flip one into a school then sort of hop it as you reel it back to the boat. Just a reminder, when you're using plastic, don't throw the used plastic worms into the lake. The fish see them as food and will eat them causing some of them to die. We had a fish in the live well the other day that spit up 3 big old worms . Let's do the best we can to keep our fish healthy. Never chunk used fishing line into the water either. It not only messes with the fish; it also snags the birds and other wildlife and can get around your prop and cut the seal cause the unit to burn up and fail. That's major Money $$$$$
The Crappie seem to be moving in some so look for the fishing to pickup in the next few weeks. The bite will continue to change as we get more into the fall. Look for them to move to the bridges and river channels in the next few months.
I'll have the web page up for the Bass Class on the Water that will be running thru the fall into early spring and covers a lot of information. Detailed Instructions on GPS, Sonar, Water Temperature, Water Color, Weather, Sound, Scent and Structure, both on and off shore. I am running a Lowrance 112 LCX with the latest software to help you see the lake like you have never seen it before. Everyone is welcome.
