Sam Rayburn is 160.90 and still falling. The water temperature has been in
the low to mid 80s. The water has been clear to around 2ft with a slight
algae tint in some places. As you move up the rivers it has a darker stain
.

This week we've been catching a lot of little fish that have moved back
into some of the creeks. The larger fish have been holding off the points
in 6 to 16 ft of water. Looking for a good patch of hydrilla with deep
water close by is a great way to start your hunt for a good catch. We where
able to catch 2 good fish that went over 4.5 Lbs and a couple that where in
the 2.5 lbs range before moving on to look for more.
The early and late bite has been doing good with the Stanley Ribbits. Work
them over the grass along with a Yellow Magic , Pop Rs and Splasher 90 in
the pockets.
What a Splasher 90? It is a bait by Sebile Baits. It's a 5/8 Popper that
makes so much noise if you hit it hard you would think a 10 pound bass had
taken a chomp of it. It will call the fish up if you learn to work it
correctly. Sebile makes a full line of hard baits and Bass Strike Tackle in
Zavalla has a great select ion of them. Stop by for a look at them. Tell
Jerry I said "Hey".
The Spinner bait and the crankbait bite has started up over grass edges. As
the sun comes up moving out to the deeper edges and working a C/R or T/R
down the edges has been picking up some fish . We also have had some fish
hiding under the pepper grass that can be a lot of fun to work.
As for colors I use lighter colors on bright days and a darker color on
cloudy days. If the water is clear I'll try to stay with the lighter colors
like Watermelon Red ,Pumpkin Seed and Green Pumpkin. If its strained I'll
go to a darker color like Red bug , Grape or Black Blue.
The Jig Bite has been slow and a lot of work but the fish you find can be
good ones. These fish are in tight groups but once you find them you can be
in for the best day of your life.
As the weather cools down we should start to see more big fish caught in
the drains and creeks and close to shore. Don't forget about the whacky
worm if it get tuff on you.

I want to let everyone one know about a New Bait Company that is right here
in Jasper. Big Sam Bait Co. One of the new products is the WACKY-O'S. You
slide the WACKY- O'S onto the worm over the egg sack. Place the hook
through the worm and WACKY-Os. It keep you from loosing so many worms. You
should find them in the local store around the lake. Their phone number is
409-383-7334

There are a lot of schooling fish around the bridge that are a lot of fun
to chase down. The best bait I have found is a chrome or gold spoon. Toss
it out there amongst them and pump it back to the boat.

I'll have the web page up for the Bass Class on the Water that will be
running thru the fall into early spring and covers a lot of information.
Detailed Instructions on GPS, Sonar, Water Temperature, Water Color,
Weather, Sound, Scent and Structure, both on and off shore. I am running a
Lowrance 112 LCX with the latest software to help you see the lake like you
have never seen it before. Everyone is welcome.

The Crappie seem to be moving in so I look for the fishing to pickup in the
next few weeks. The bite will continue to change as the weather becomes
more unsettled. Look for them to move to the bridges and river channels in
the next few months.

There are pictures posted on my site under the (Latest Catch) each week
