    Wow....what a place!

03/02/2006 - The late February experience on Lake Amistad is in the books. I'm gratefule to the Father for my 29th place finish. I had driven 830 miles to this never-before-seen empoundment expecting great things. I wasn't disappointed.

My first practice day I threw a crankbait and managed about 16 lbs in the Box Canyon area. Most of the guys I saw who were in another tournament were keying on deep grass around the river runs.

The second day of practice was very cold and I chose not to run far from where I launched. I watched my Lowrance "enhanced" map of Amistad and started seeing grass off points in about 24' of water. MY VERY FIRST CAST with a lightly weighed plastic work boated me a 6+ pounder. I started searching for other points with that same grass pattern and EUREKA I had stumbled up on a pattern.

The first day I weighed in 16.8 lbs to be in 55th place. On day two I had over 20 lbs. and spring boarded into 29th place and a $1400.00 pay day.

Roddy Theesfield, my first day's partner, had an awesome time in the back of my boat. He borrowed some baits from me and threw shallower while I raked the deeper points. He had FOUR FISH THAT WENT 24.11 LBS. What a blessing and what a new friend I have in the Lord. Keep an eye out for this guy!!

My next adventure on the Stren Tour is the week of March 19 on Sam Rayburn. Looking to see some of you there.

    God Bless and Good Limits......
    Jim
