    Lake of the Ozarks
    BASS Central Open
    Nov. 8-10, 2001

11/13/2001 - Oh how the mighty have fallen! In November, 1998 it took 60 pounds to win the BASS event at Lake of the Ozarks. This year it took 24 pounds. Who would have ever thought 8 pounds a day would win there? The bass virus has struck again. The Missouri D.N.R. needs to study this situation because the spotted bass are dying as well. The virus at Bull Shoals and Table Rock only killed the largemouth. Everyone is hoping this will pass, and the fisheries will soon return to normal. Lets hope so. But while Missouri anglers hope, they need to put some pressure on their Department of Natural Resources to figure out what is going on in their lakes.

I couldn't get bit on the lower lake brushy docks in practice, so I concentrated up the Osage River like everyone else who did well in this event. The weather was unusually mild all week and that kept the lower end from turning on. The warm weather did have many of the upper lake fish still up on the flats, and that was where I caught my bass. I fished the Buffalo Creek area of the lake and found the bass in 2' or less on wood. I couldn't get bit deeper than 3'. Berkley spinnerbaits and very shallow cranks were what I caught my 7 bass on that got me 11th place. Water temps ranged from the lower to upper 50s on my water during the week. A few guys caught some good stringers pitching to wood on the steeper banks in the same section of the lake. It is very common to have bass in the same area of the lake doing different things.
