(Oct. 23, 2012 - Lake Falcon, TX)... The 2012 Anglers Quest Tournament of Champions is now in the books, and all Series are complete for 2012. This event was made up from the 123 qualifiers from each of Anglers Quest 7 Series of events. The event began on Wednesday with 3 days of official practice and then on Friday the attending qualified 28 teams came together for a meeting and dinner at 6:00 pm provided by the Zapata Chamber of Commerce at the Aqua Bar & Grill. A/Q would like to Thank the Chamber and President/CEO of the Chamber of Commerce Mr Jose "Paco" Mendoza, Jr and all his staff and the staff at The Aqua Bar & Grill and the Best Western by the Lake for their 1st class hospitality.
The meeting began after dinner at 6:00 pm and the Sidepot auction followed and raised $7000.00 to add to the angler’s pot. This Tournament of Champions event paid out a total of $21,810.00 to the anglers. A/Q also wants to make note of the Great job that Chris DiBerardino, James Chandler, Sandro Alfaro, Tommy Hill, Bubba Frazier and a few others did keeping all A/Q operations ranning smoothly and helping out!! Ms Barbara threw a large amount of Royal Purple hats & place mats to the crowd of over 60 for their taking at the Friday evening meeting.
Weather conditions on day 1 were great with a brisk breeze and mostly cloudy skies and about 76 degrees at take off, temps rose into the mid 90’s by weigh in time. On day 2 the weather was very warm at take off, 70 degrees and continued to climb into the 90’s with gusty 30 mph winds for weigh in. The fish catching was really slow for most and good keepers were hard to come by. Most teams reported expectations of big and heavy limits of bass. But the bite was a lot tougher than expected after the lake received about 5-6 ft of water and the anglers had to work hard to bring in a good limit of bass. On Saturday there were 16 limits brought to the scales, a total of 101 bass at 375.20 lbs making the average bass brought in weigh 3.71 lbs. On Sunday there were 10 limits, 64 bass at 254.78 lbs making the average bass brought in weigh 3.98 lbs.
The Superior Paint Works, Inc team of David Holst from Houston, Tx and Wayne Miller from Houston, Tx had 5 bass on day 1 for a total of 15.22 lbs and on day 2 they had another limit at 19.10 lbs for a 10 bass total of 34.32 lbs for a 10th place finish to collect $340.00.
The team of Russell Batchelor and Raymond Minchew from Crosby, Tx ran Russell’s Ranger/Yamaha to the south creek areas of the lake to bring back 5 bass at 17.19 lbs on day 1 and another limit of 17.17 lbs on day 2 to give them 34.36 lbs to secure 9th place and collect $405.00. The team of Chris DiBerardino from Huffman, Tx and Albert White from Crosby, Tx ran Chris’s Triton/Mercury to the south end of the lake to bring back 17.86 lbs on day 1 and 17.75 lbs on day 2 to give them 35.61 lbs with 7.88 lb kicker to garner 2nd Big Bass of the event and secure 8th place and collect $630.00.
The Team of Tommy Hill and Bubba Frazier from Kountze, Tx ran Tommy’s Bullett/Mercury rig to south creek areas and had 5 bass on day 1 for a total of 23.18 lbs and on day 2 they had another limit at 15.38 lbs for a 10 bass total of 38.56 lbs for a 7th place finish to collect $540.00.
The Team of Robert Cotton from Atascocita, Tx and Chris Thomas from Baytown, Tx ran their bass rig to south creek areas to crank the points and had 5 bass on day 1 for a total of 14.50 lbs and on day 2 they had another great limit at 24.39 lbs for a 10 bass total of 38.89 lbs for a 6th place finish to collect $610.00.
Brian Vondereau from The Woodlands, Tx and Tim Cooper from Willis, Tx ran their bass rig to south creek areas to probe the bushes & points to bring 4 bass at 19.04 lbs to the scales on day 1. On day 2 they brought in 5 bass at 22.29 lbs to give them 10 bass at 41.33 lbs for 5th place and collected $675.00.
The Team of Jason Reyes from Huffman, Tx & Jeff Kreit from Ardmore, Okla ran Jeff’s Uncle Ray’s wrapped bass rig to south creek areas and brought in a limit at 20.22 lbs on day 1. On day 2 they re-traced their trail and had another limit at 21.94 lbs to give them a 4th place with 42.15 lbs and collected $785.00.
The Father & Son team of Bob Signorin & Travis Signorin from Oakhurst, Tx ran Bob’s Phoenix/Yamaha bass rig to south creek areas and brought in a limit at 24.30 lbs on day 1 with an 8.20 lb kicker that held for Big Bass of the event. On day 2 they re-traced their trail and had another limit at 22.88 lbs to give them a 3rd place with 47.18 lbs and collected $1415.00, a $500 Power Pole certificate and 2 pairs of Solar Bat Sunglasses.
The team of David Wheaton from Huffman, Tx & Tansley Bynog Sr from Porter, Tx ran David’s Gambler/Mercury bass rig to south creek areas and brought in a limit at 26.12 lbs on day 1 to lead the troops. On day 2 they re-traced their trail and had another limit at 22.47 lbs to give them a 2nd place with 48.59 lbs and collected $1700.00, a $500 Power Pole certificate and 2 pairs of Solar Bat Sunglasses.
The High flying team of Continental airline jet pilots of Dean Coleman from Humble, Tx & Jim Guzman from Cold Springs, Tx ran Dean’s Ranger/Yamaha bass rig to south creek areas and brought in a limit at 26.06 lbs on day 1. On day 2 they had another limit at 24.28 lbs to give them a 1st place WIN! with 50.34 lbs and collected $10,500.00, and a $500 Power Pole certificate.
A special Thank You to all the TOC anglers from A/Q for taking such good care of the bass to return all bass but 3 alive to Lake Falcon.

Anglers Quest 2013 schedules are now available online at the anglers-quest website. The 1st event for the 2013 season will be the Saturday Series Team event on Sam Rayburn, January 5, 2013 and the Sam Rayburn Individual event on January 6, 2013 with entry at the Anglers Quest coach on the evening before the event or the morning of at Umphrey Pavilion or anytime by phone at 281-852-8842.
