(Jun. 08, 2011 - Lake Bridgeport, TX)... On a very calm day (yes, I said calm day as in NO WIND!!!), after almost three months of constant winds of 20 to 25, 30 to 35, and even higher wind speeds all over Texas, the calm was incredible. The only problem with calm is HOT!!! Temperatures were in the upper 90’s almost topping 100 degrees! Fishing was extra tough!Pat & Maryann Marino continued their #1 status as leaders in C.A.S.T. North Region’s TOP SIX standings by winning on Bridgeport this past Sunday. Pat & Maryann caught five fish weighing 11.80 pounds. Their catch was anchored with a 5.90 pound fish to seal the deal claiming big bass and 1st Place!!! Awesome!
In 2nd place, Richard & Diane Tompkins landed five bass weighing 8.00 pounds even. Richard held big bass honors with a bass weighing 4.60 only to be overtaken by the Marino’s larger fish. This quality finish moved Richard & Diane up in the standings putting them in the running as contenders for a position on the North Region TOP SIX team this year.
Mere ounces separated the remaining couples at the end of the day; one of those couples prevailing were Frank Tenorio Jr. & Mimi Thompson with 7.80 pounds landing them in 3rd Place. Mimi won the Ladies Big Bass award with a nice fish weighing 2.05. Mimi received a Castaway Rod compliments of RGA Homecare as her reward!
Tony Mattson & Candy Lewis placed 4th overall with 7.05 pounds with their five fish limit. Tony & Candy’s creel also included a nice fish over the slot limit weighing in at 3.30 pounds. Fifth place was won by Pat & Patty Delaney with a five fish limit of 6.85 pounds.
For those that might not know, Bridgeport is a slot lake so all fish, excluding smallmouth, over 14" and less than 18" are considered in the slot and are not allowed to be kept and weighed in. Our couples seemed to enjoy the day tremendously, catching many fish in the slot but also culling many of those smaller ones.
We had a few of our TOP SIX contending couples unable to make the tournament, therefore, shaking up our standings; opening the door for others to make the cut for the TOP SIX tournament. This will definitely be decided at our last tournament of the year on Ray Roberts. This tournament is scheduled for July 17th and we will be having registration and weigh in at Jordan Park. We will be at the ramp Sunday morning starting at 4:30 am.
Please patronize all of our regional sponsors this year: Southwest Ford, Napa Auto Parts, Center-Line Curtains, West Marine, Angler’s Pro Tackle, Fun N Sun Boats, RGA Homecare and T-MC Electric.
Have a safe 4th of July and we will see you at Ray Roberts.
