(Feb. 23, 2010 - Big Pine Key, Florida Keys)... Danny Eggert of Ramrod Key, Fla., took first place in the Big Pine & Lower Keys Rotary Club Kingfish Tournament that ended Feb. 21.
Eggert, who fished aboard New Mystery skippered by his brother Captain Brian Eggert, earned the top spot and $2,500 for a kingfish weighing 51.15 pounds.
"We were using live bait out on the edge past the reef, flying a kite with a big blue runner on it," said Danny Eggert, who estimated the water depth was 80 or 90 feet when they encountered the winning kingfish. "It came up and took a swipe at the bait, and came back and got it the second time."
Kevin Rowley of Summerland Key, Fla., took second place with a 40.5-pounder. He fished on Captain Nate Wheeler’s Hit ’Em Hard.
Third place went to Shane Curry of Key West, who brought in a 38.3-pound kingfish while fishing aboard the Reel Conch guided by Captain Randy Sterling Jr. |
