(Oct. 28, 2009 - Islamorada, Florida Keys)... The 2nd Annual Mad Dog Mandich Fishing Classic, held in beautiful Islamorada, Florida, was a huge success with 154 on 28 boats participating in the tournament. Everyone enjoyed a fantastic weekend of fun for the entire family, all while helping to raise money for Mariners Hospital.

The one-day fishing tournament, which benefited Mariners Hospital, targeted dolphin, kingfish, tuna, wahoo, along with a special "Weekend Warrior Division" targeting snapper and grouper. The event kicked off Friday evening with a Sharp Business Systems Cocktail Party and Captain’s meeting at Ziggie and Mad Dog’s. Anglers received tournament shirts and hats, along with angler bags stuffed with goodies.

On Saturday, the teams headed out for a day of fishing. The competition was strong, but after all the fish were weighed in, the winner was Don Seifel from Connecticut who was guided by last year’s champion, Capt. Brian Cone of Islamorada on the boat Contagious. The team captured the $5,000 cash-and-trophy first-place boat prize by bringing in fish with a combined weight of 70.3 pounds. The team’s total winnings were $8,772.50.

Don Seifel also caught the tournament’s top single Kinfish at 21.3 pounds, respectively winning him $500 and title as Top Angler catching 40.8 pounds of fish. Winn Wolf of the Challenger brought in a winning 20.8-pound tuna for $500. Amanda Towe on My-Sea-Cin was named Top Lady angler with her 12.10 pound Wahoo. And Russel Yagel aboard Ollie G had the top Dolphin weighing in at exactly 10 pounds.

The tournament’s "Weekend Warrior" title for catching the top snapper and grouper went to boat Bad Habit. Angler J.R. Glover had the Top Snapper at 2.8 pounds and Joaquin Riera had Top Grouper at 13.5 pounds.

After the weigh-in and dock party, anglers, sponsors and guests enjoyed a beach side dinner, catered by Mangrove Mike’s at the Chesapeake Beach Resort. The awards ceremony concluded the weekend as the Mad Dog Mandich Fishing Classic awarded over $13,000 in prize money and was proud to donate $11,000 to Mariners Hospital.
