Anglers Quest Conroe Saturday Series #2
|(Mar. 01, 2009 - Montgomery, TX)... Anglers Quest 2009 Conroe Saturday Series #2 out of El Dorado Jack’s in Montgomery, TX began this event with 40 teamed anglers showing up to fish for the $2700.00 purse.|
We can not express enough Thanks to Barbara’s 2 sons Harley & Tommy Permenter for all of their helping A/Q with the setup, weigh in & tear down operations while Mr Bill & Barbara are recovering from surgeries. Harley was weigh master at today’s event and it was a good job again...Great job guys!.
The event began at safe light, which was 6:28 am. Weigh in was conducted at 3:15 pm. This Conroe Saturday Series after all 9 events will provide the Team Anglers of the year with free entries to all 2010 Conroe Saturday Series events. The Top 25 teams in pounds will qualify for the 2-day Championship in October on Lake Conroe. A special Top 5 group of teams will qualify to go to the "Tournament of Champions" to be held on November 14-15 on Lake Bob Sandlin and will have a Great payout as normal. All Anglers Quest Championships include Calcutta auctions which builds the Championship purse to some very nice $$ to fish for, for a very small entry fee of $155.00 per team. Lake Conroe water was in good shape and about 1 ft below normal pool level with water temps running 57-59 degrees.
The weather at takeoff was a blustery 47 degrees with a warming to 60 degrees by weigh in time. With winds in excess of 35 mph today it made the fish catching a bit slow for most today on Conroe as there were only 7 limits brought to the scales, for a total of 50 bass at 191.15 lbs making the average bass brought to the scales today weigh 3.82 lb.
The team of Steve Young from Willis, Tx ran his ProGator/Mercury bass rig to south main lake areas to catch 5 keeper bass throwing tx rigged worms & jigs/ultra vibe trailers in 5-10 ft water with scattered brush using his American Rodsmiths rods & Shimano reels. Steve reported culling down to 5 bass at 23.61 lbs to finish in 1st place and collect $1000.00 for his day on the water.
Bryan & Colby McClary from Sugarland, Tx finished in 2nd with their best 5 bass that tipped the scales at 22.35 lbs. There was no report on how the father & son caught their bass today. Their day on the water paid back $750.00 for their efforts.
The team of Bryan Stevens from Crosby, Tx & Russell Traylor from Huffman, Tx ran their bass rig to various lake areas with brush to finish in 3rd place with a total of 5 bass that tipped the scales at 22.16 lbs fishing with tx rigged worms and cranks. One of their bass was the Big Bass of the event, a fine 8.99 lber that fell prey to a crank bait. They took home $500.00 for their day on the water.
The father & son team of Chip & Brian Sewell from Coldspring, Tx ran their BassCat/Mercury to various lake areas to finish in 3rd place with a total of 5 bass that tipped the scales at 21.66 lbs fishing with tx rigged worms and cranks. They took home $200.00 for their day on the water.
Another father & son team of Julian Clepper III & Julian Clepper II brought in 5 bass for a great weight of 18.91 lbs. They took home the first place out of the money prize of 2 packs of ZZ Lures for 5th place. Be sure to check all the results at the end of this article.
Anglers Quest will be back at El Dorado Jack’s on Lake Conroe on Saturday, March 21st for the 3rd of 9 Lake Conroe Saturday Series events. On March 14th Anglers Quest will be at Mill Creek Park on Sam Rayburn for the 3rd of 9 Rayburn Saturday Series events. The next Saturday series will be March 7th at Lake Livingston at Kickapoo Bait & Tackle. Then on March 29th we will be back on Sam Rayburn at Mill Creek Park for the 3rd of 7 Super Team series events. Remember to get your teams entry in early to get a low take off #, as they are issued when you enter.
