(May. 26, 2005 - Dania Beach, FLa.)... New pending records:Â Christchurch, New Zealand’s Andy Sheppard may break a 12 year-old IGFA record by 56 pounds after landing a 61 lb 8 oz blue shark while fishing the Kaikouri, NZ area with Capt. David Kairns. Andy landed this blue shark on February 25, 2005 using his ’Sheppard’s Special fly" and spent a brief five minutes to capture his now pending men’s record on 2-lb class tippet. The current record for a blue shark on 2-lb class tippet is 5 lb 2 oz.
  Fishing with a fly rod on Alabama’s Tallapoosa River, George Mann’s hand-tied baitfish fly attracted a huge grass carp. Mann, Opelika, spent the next hour and 40 minutes hoisting his 62 lb bounty to the rivers edge. The March catch is now entered for a pending record on 12-lb tippet.   Using live minnows, Scott Ruiter, Muskegon, Michigan, landed a dozen perch from the Muskegon Lake. On his next hook set, Scott thought he had snagged a log.
