The Lake Livingston Area Tourism Council, and chief cook Phil Smith treated all 35 team championship anglers and their families to a very good old fashion catfish fry and all the trimmings at the final day weigh in at Kickapoo Bait & Tackle on Sunday.
The weather was an absolute delight as low 60’s at daybreak to low 80’s during the day with a slight breeze for the entire event. As Day 1 got underway with the playing of the national anthem after a 1 hour delay because of the fog, the 35 Qualified Teams took off into the dim morning light at 7:30 am going for the $10,618.73 purse which was the 97% payback promised by A/Q at all Championships.
The torrential 14 days of rain that led up to the event had both lakes above flood stage going into the event. Lake Houston on day 1 was still about 24" above normal and very muddy, but the 35 teams still brought in 5 limits of bass, 81 fish that totaled 175 lbs with an incredible limit from Ricky Guy from Deer Park & Larry Cotton from Channelview that led the way at 16.25 lbs.
Ricky & Larry reported catching their bass on the north end of Lake Houston in the commode hole area of the lake on Texas rigged brushhogs and spinner baits.

Day 2 was started by the national anthem at 6:20 am on a beautiful clear morning from Kickapoo Bait & Tackle in Onalaska, Tx. Day 2 weigh-in was exciting as over half the teams from day 1 still had a shot at winning the event.
