(10/07/2002 - Waterwood Resort & Marina, Lake Livingston, TX)... Anglers Quest 2002 Pro-Am Series Championship is now in the books, and the Pro-Am Series is complete for 2002. The event began with Thursday & Friday being official practice days. Friday evening was the meeting, auctions, draw and awards presentation to the Top 10. Anglers of the Year, Ricky Guy & Chris Hayes were presented with their A/Q Angler of the Year Trophies. Since the Pro-Am events for 2003 have been cancelled, Ricky will receive $1200.00 in free entries to any A/Q events of his choice in 2003. Chris will receive his choice of entries in the amount of $500.00. The Top 10 Pro & Am anglers of the year were awarded Top 10 Plaques with the statistics of all 4 2002 events engraved. The A/Q Auctions, headed up by Auctioneer Skip Galloway from Highlands, Tx took place next with all different kinds of items brought and donated by the fishermen and the Sponsors to raise money for their Big Bass and Heavy Am Split pots. The items auction raised $1028.20.00 for the Pro side & $775.50 for the Am side. The Calcutta Auction followed and sold Pros & Ams from $50 to $400 and raised $3094.30 to add to the anglers pots. The weather was great with just a slight breeze and cool mornings with the highs being in the low 90’s for the entire event.
Lake Livingston was in its normal shape of clear to stained water, at approximately 8" below normal pool level. As Saturday Day 1 got underway with the playing of the national anthem at 6:50 am, the 17 Pros and 16 Ams idled out into the dim morning light going for the $13,307.00 purse.
Pro Jason Reyes, from Humble, Tx brought 5 Bass to the scales to lead the way on day 1 with 11.98 lbs. Jason brought 4 more bass to the scales on day 2 and finished in 1st place overall with 19.99 lbs and collected his paychecks for a total of $3113.47. Jason reported catching all his bass in the poole creek area flipping tx rigged brush hogs to very shallow reeds and laydowns. Barbara Long & Carla Diberardino were Jason’s calcutta owners for the event and for that they collected $778.43.
15 year old Am Chris Adams from Humble, Tx fishing with Pro partner Randy Quin brought in 3 bass at 5.97 lbs to lead the Ams and split the day 1 heavy Am stringer pot of $300.00 with Randy. Chris fished on day 2 with Pro partner Jason Reyes and brought 2 more bass to the scales to claim victory on the Am side with a total 2 day weight of 11.15 lbs. Chris also had the Am Big Bass for the event at 3.54 lbs and collected $332.85 for that 1 bite, Chris collected a total of $2342.60 for his 2 days of fishing. Chris reported catching his big fish on a Tx rigged plastic worm flipping reeds on day 2 with Jason Reyes.
Larry Cotten from Channelview, Tx weighed in a 3.92 lber, caught on a shallow running chartruese and blue crank bait to capture the Pro 1st Big Bass and the $509.74 pay check.
Pro Randy Quin finished in 2nd place overall with 9 bass that tipped the scales at 19.07 lbs, 1 of his bass was 2nd big bass of the event at 3.66 lbs. Randy collected a total of $1951.15. Randy reported catching all his bass in a secret area north in the trinity river, Randy said he had the 10th fish on 3 different times during the event but could not get it in the boat.
Am Gary Thompson from Crosby, Tx finished in 2nd place with 5 bass that totaled 10.83 lbs and collected $751.64. Jimmy Lout was Gary’s calcutta owner and collected $229.16. Pro Albert White from Houston, Tx finished in 3rd place with 8 bass, 17.24 lbs. Albert did purchase himself in the calcutta auction and collected $1271.16. Albert reported catching his bass in the white rock creek area on shallow crank baits.
Rick Westfall from Houston, Tx had the 2nd Big Bass on the Am side with a 3.36 lber and finished in 3rd place overall and collected $748.73. Rick’s calcutta owner was Don Knapp and he collected $302.77 after splitting the $300.00 heavy Am split with Rick.
Pro John Payette from Houston, Tx finished in 4th place overall with 9 bass that tipped the scales at 16.99 lbs and collected a total of $570.00. John reported catching his bass in the poole creek area on wacky worms and shallow crank baits while flippin to reeds and laydowns. Am Hameed Ghaffar from Dallas, Tx finished in 4th place with 5 bass, 9.41 lbs and collected $270.10.
Hameed reported catching his bass on Tx rigged worms and wacky worms. Pro Jimmy Emmons Jr, 16.24 lbs and Am Mark Rouse 8.60 lbs both received a case of Royal Purple TCW3 Oil for their 5th place finishes.
