(Jul. 21, 2008 - Athens, TX)... Liz Meisell caught a total of eight fish during our night tournament on Lake Athens on Saturday, July 12 fishing brush piles with a Texas rigged watermelon red baby brush hog. Her final weight after culling down to the five largest was 15.69 lbs.Judy Muse, who came in second, caught a total of eleven fish. She was using a Texas rigged black worm around lighted boat houses. Her final weight was 14.13 lbs. She also had the Big Bass of the tournament, weighing in at 5.58 lbs.
Jan Bruner caught a total of 8 fish. Her largest five fish weighed 10.95 lbs., which put her in third place. She and Judy were fishing together.
This was our first night tournament. Although the daytime temperatures were in the high 90’s, once the sun went down it was surprisingly comfortable on the water. The light breeze also helped to keep it cool - and kept the mosquitoes away!
Lake Athens is at normal level and the water is slightly stained. Everyone who participated in the tournament caught fish. There is a lot of underwater grass and several locations with lily pads, although not as many as there have been in years past.
Others fishing were:
| Barbara Arrington | 4th Place | 7.88 lbs. |
| Norma Ussery | 5th Place | 7.49 lbs. |
| Inge Kirby | 6th Place | 4.20 lbs. |
| Pam Rodden | 7th Place | 3.74 lbs. |
| Traci Smith | 8th Plalce | 2.22 lbs. |
Traci is one of our rookies and this is the first tournament fish she has caught. Rumor has it that you could hear her all over the lake when she got this fish in.
Our next tournament will also be held at night. It will be on Cedar Creek Lake on Saturday, August 16.
