(Jul. 15, 2008 - Kaufman Co, TX)... One of our Club projects is the Rainbow Room, which is located in the Child Protective Services office in Kaufman County. The Rainbow Room is fully funded by donations. When children are removed from their families, they rarely have clothing or personal items. Caseworkers can go into the Room and pack a bag of clothing, undergarments, toiletries, etc. Many times this is the first new clothing that these children have ever received.
For several years we have been in contact with those responsible for maintaining the Room. If there are specific items needed; strollers, car seats, baby wipes, school uniforms, etc. we will receive a call for help. Donations are collected from our members and we will get the needed items to them.
Recently we received a call for "Birthday Bags." This is a new project just started. Often children who have birthdays while they are being placed miss the chance to celebrate the occasion. The bags are filled with birthday items to help make it special for them. When a caseworker picks up a child and is outfitting them with clothing they can also pick up a birthday bag that will hopefully make the transition a little easier. For the older children the bags contain items more suited to their age.
We have delivered 10 of the bags to date and have more on the way. This project has been very rewarding for our club because we know how great the need is and any way we can brighten a child’s day is certainly worth the timeand effort that is put into it. |
