Once again all of our couples were able to find fish, some were just larger than others. With good sacks of fish coming in each time a different couple stepped up to the scale. This really made for an exciting weigh-in. Fish were caught on a variety of lures, worms, sweet beavers, baby brush hogs, Strike King spinnerbaits, rattle traps and crankbaits. Most of our couples said the bite was slow but steady and it lasted all day. Way to Go Ark-Tex Couples! Capturing the 1st Place position at Lake O’ Pines were Ronnie & Ruth Bickham. After a week of fishing other tournaments and having no luck they brought in the winning sack of fish totaling 20.80 lbs. Ronnie & Ruth’s heavy stringer was anchored with the Big Bass for the tournament, a 6.62 lbs. lunker bass. Ronnie said maybe his luck was turning around. They also won one of the sponsored Castaway Rods. Thank you to Castaway Custom Rods in Montgomery, Texas for the fantastic support of CAST and the Ark-Tex Region in 2008. Congratulations to Ronnie & Ruth on their WIN!!! Finishing in 2nd Place were a new couple to CAST and the Ark-Tex Region, Brian & Marla Keith. This was their first tournament with us and they proved to be a good team, bringing a limit of quality fish to the scales weighing in at 16.52 lbs. Way to Go Brian & Marla! We look forward to seeing more of you two. Butch & Cindy Scheppler took 3rd Place with five fish weighing 16.50 lbs. Butch was concerned on Saturday with the fishing conditions of the lake as the area had received over five inches of rain during the week. Even under tough fishing conditions like these Butch and Cindy are a great team. Good Fishing!!! Also finishing the tournament as one of the top money winners in the 4th Place position were Mitchel & Jan Stuteville. Always one of the most consistent couples in the Ark-Tex Region, Mitchel & Jan came to weigh-in with five fish weighing 15.50 lbs. Rounding out the top five in 5th Place, Rick & Linda Milam brought in a very respectable stringer at 14.70 lbs. Congratulations to all our CAST Ark-Tex couples on a good day of couples tournament bass fishing! Lake O’ Pines completes our fifth tournament of the year and I do believe it is time to talk about the couples holding down the Top 6 places in the Ark-Tex Region at this time. These six couples are in great position to represent the Ark-Tex Region as our TOP SIX team at the 2008 CAST TOP SIX Invitational Tournament:
Winners of Castaway Rods were Ronnie & Ruth Bickham and Butch & Cindy Scheppler. Ya’ll enjoy your new rods. And thanks Castaway. Winners of Academy gift cards, courtesy of Academy Sports & Outdoors, were Jim & Linda Rucker, and David & Krystal Ford. Winners of the third CAST Classic entry raffle so far this season were Steven & Catilyn Allen. Congratulations to them!!! The winners of the R & R Marine Sales, gift certificates were Rick & Linda Milam and Brian & Marla Keith, we had two gift certificates to award this time, we forgot to present one at the last tournament. Now both couples can stop in at R&R Marine and shop for some new lures on their next visit to Pittsburg, Texas. Winners of gift certificates for engine lower unit service from Plano Marine in Longview were Jimmy & Neeley Oglesby, Rickey & Toni Ledbetter and Tommy & Candra Deese. Thanks Plano Marine! Thanks to all our members who make sign in and weigh in run smooth. I would also like to take a minute and Thank Dorothy of Dishman’s Landing for allowing us to use the Marina for our registration and weigh-in. It certainly made for an easy and quick tournament. We hope to see Dorothy and her staff again next year!!
