The Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) is the largest of the North American herons standing four feet tall with a seven-foot wingspan. The Blue Heron is noted as an expert fisher, walking along the water's edge spearing fish with its long bill. Native American folklore and today's anglers have long associated the presence of a Blue Heron as an excellent sign that their fishing experience will be successful.
