(Sep. 29, 2008 - Lake Sam Rayburn, Tx)... There couldn’t have been a more exciting championship tournament than there was at Bass N Bucks on Sam Rayburn September 27-28 at the Umphrey Family Pavilion. Over $150,000 was awarded in cash and prizes, including three brand new Ranger boats powered by Mercury motors and equipped with Lowrance and MinnKota! 2008 has been a great season for Bass N Bucks, and the anglers have fished hard to qualify to fish the lucrative championship. 169 teams qualified to fish and were divided into three brackets, each team only fishing against those in their bracket. The top award for each 1st place team was a brand new Ranger boat.
There were many comments that the weather and Rayburn has never been more beautiful. With no obstacles in the way from Mother Nature, the teams were able to concentrate on just fishing. After a prayer each morning and the National Anthem being played, the teams were released in order of their team number, established in each bracket. The second day the order of release was reversed. During the course of the two days, we saw phenomenal sacks of bass, and several huge individual ones including a couple over 10 pounds.
Anglers from Bracket 1 were the first to come in on Saturday. Tim White and Jason Moorhead brought the first sack over 20 pounds to the scales for a short lived lead. The next angler to weigh, 19 year old Danny Iles who had to fish by himself the first day, caught the most impressive limit of the tournament. Visibly shaken, he watched as his biggest was weighed first. Dave Concienne, tournament director, grinned as the weight was tallied - 10.5 pounds! "Oh, God!" Danny said as his trembling became more apparent. The other four bass in his creel were added for a total weight of 34.38 pounds, taking a commanding lead on day 1. The crowd cheered and the weigh in continued.

Nichols Marine of Longview, Texas and Texas Marine of Beaumont brought display and prize boats to the pavilion for the anglers to check out the Ranger models. With the cooling weather, the bass have been on the move, keeping the teams on the chase after them. Anglers from Bracket #3 were the first to report in on Sunday.
Todd Littleton and Daniel Chambers made up a lot of ground on day 2. They had only weighed 14.37 pounds on Saturday, putting them in 12th place at the end of day 1. On Sunday their sack weighed 26.24 pounds for a two day total of 40.61 pounds to take the win in Bracket 3. "We had just a few spots picked out. During practice, we were catching a lot of scattered bass in these areas." ’
Targeting 8’ depths with hydrilla, wacky worms were their bait of choice. "They just wouldn’t bite for us on Saturday." Having faith in their spots, they went right back to them on Sunday. "We only caught 14 fish all weekend." By 12:30 Sunday they had their winning limit. They were presented with a Ranger 178VS bass boat powered by a Mercury 150 outboard. They would like to thank their sponsors Bayou Outdoors and Champion Boats.
