The first championship for Arkansas’s Couples saw sunny days with temperatures in the 60’s .The 27 qualifiers caught 197 fish weighing 516.46 lbs with 6/10 fish two-day limits. Lake Chicot was 6 feet down for a winter draw down and day one every one caught fish.
Kevin and Kerry Short of Mayflower used a Norman and EWC crank baits in shallow water to net their 31.48 lbs they lead from the first day with the largest string of the tournament on day one of 16.50 lbs.They used chartreuse colored crank baits on shallow sand keying on where the shad were located to earn their $2400 pay day.
Second were Stan and Judy Jacks who anchored their two-day total of 30.08 with big bass of the event weighing in at 7.09 lbs. They were also using crank baits around docks to earn a total of $1610.
Third were Michael and Tonya Johnson of Hot Springs who had the largest second day total of 16.36 moving them to 3rd with 28.20 lbs. They used several colors of Bandit 200 series crank baits to win $800.
Ron and Jan Means of Van Buren were 4th using spinner bait around docks to weigh 27.64. and earn $520.
Steve and Malinda Powell of Cabot were in the same area of the lake also using spinner bait to take $400 for fifth.
Big bass for day one was Jeremy Blaylock and Samantha Martindale who’s 4.91 earned the couple $300.
