(Oct. 26, 2009 - Lake Conroe Conroe, Tx)... Anglers Quest 2009 Saturday Series Conroe Championship is now in the books, and the Saturday Conroe Series is complete for 2009. Now all of the A/Q Championships are complete and we will head to Mount Pleasant, Texasin a couple of weeks to the Tournament of Champions, hosted by the Mount Pleasant, Texas Chamber of Commerce. This Conroe event began on Friday evening with the presentation of the special A/Q Goal Post to the new 2009 Anglers of the Year team of Julian Clepper II & Julian Clepper III. They will receive free paid entries to all A/Q Saturday Conroe Series Events in 2010. The Calcutta Auction followed and sold teams from $65 to $900 and raised $5600.00 to add to the angler’s pot. As at all A/Q Championships, there were some American Rodsmiths Limit Stix rods auctioned off to raise $ for the upcoming Tournament of Champions on Lake Bob Sandlin.
Lake Conroe water was in decent shape and approximately 1/4 ft below normal pool level. The weather was really nice with a lot of sunshine with a steady 5-15 mph north breeze on both days of the event as low 50’s at daybreak to mid 70’s during the days greeted the anglers.
As Day 1 got underway with the playing of the national anthem, the 21 qualified teams took off into the dim morning light at 6:55 am going for the $12,550.00 purse which was the payback by Anglers Quest at this Conroe Championship event.
The Triton/Suzuki team of Mike Parsons & Eddie Thomas from Willis, Texasbrought 5 Bass to the scales to lead the way on day 1 with 14.50 lbs. Mike & Eddie anchored their sack with a fine 4.53 lber. Mike reported catching the Big Bass on a C-rigged senko in 8ft of water around some brush in the main lake.
The team of Chris Brasher & Kyle Edge from Spring, Texasrose to the top of the leader board for 2nd on day 1 with 5 bass that tipped the scales at 13.55 lbs. They reported catching all of their bass on C-rigs & cranks.
It was the Gambler/Mercury team of David Wheaton from Huffman, Texas& Tansley Bynog Sr from Porter, Texasto hold down the 3rd spot on day 1 with 4 bass at 11.84 lbs.
The team of Garrett Pierce from Conroe, Texas& Skip Regan Jr from Willis, Texasbrought in a fine sack of 3 bass that tipped the scales at 11.28 lbs to hold down the 4th spot on day one. Their sack was anchored by a bass that tipped the scales at 4,90 lbs.
It was the 1 man team of Donald Gregg from Cleveland, Texasto hold down the 5th spot on day 1 with 4 bass at 10.68 lbs.
The Tiremax sponsored & wrapped Ranger/Evinrude team of Ricky & Charlotte Guy from Humble, Texasbrought 3 bass to the scales that weighed in at 9.36 lbs to grab the 6th spot on day one.
Day 2 was started at 6:55 am by the playing of "The National Anthem". Day 2 weigh-in was exciting as the lead changed several times.
Brasher & Edge slipped a bit on day 2 and brought 2 bass to the scales at 9.31 lbs for a 2-day total of 7 bass at 22.86 lbs. One of their bass on day-2 was the Big Bass of the event at 6.73 lbs and earned them $630.00 for that one bite. They reported catching most of their bass on Texas& C-rigged rigged worms and senkos. They collected the 1st place check of $2230.00 and the A/Q Goal Post. Ricky Bishop bought their team during the Calcutta auction on Friday night for $400.00 and received a 1st place Calcutta check for $2240.00. The team wanted to thank their wife’s for their support. This 1st place finish gave them a total payday of $2860.00. Good Job Guys!!
The Tiremax team of Ricky & Charlotte Guy give it a valiant effort by bringing in 4 bass on day 2 at 10.61 lbs to give them a 7 bass total of 19.97 lbs for 2nd place and a check for $1505.00. Larry Cotten bought their team in the Calcutta auction for $200.00 and received a check for $1510.00. Charlotte reported they caught all their bass on Texas rigged senkos & cranks in 2-8 ft of water all over the lake.
The team of Parsons & Thomas brought in 2 bass that weighed 5.36 lbs to give them a 2 day total of 7 bass at 19.86 lbs and the 3rd place check of $835.00. They reported catching their bass on small crank baits, Texasrigged & C-rigged worms around docks & piers, they called it just junk fishin. They did buy their team in the Calcutta auction for $625.00 and collected a check for $1120.00. Their weekend paid back $1955.00 for their efforts.
The team of Pierce & Regan Jr brought 6 bass in over the 2 days that tipped the scales at 18.95 lbs to claim 4th place and a check for $560.00. They reported catching their bass on small cranks on shallow brush in the main lake. They also bought their team in the Calcutta auction for $180.00 and collected their purse cut of $730.00 to give them a $1290.00 payday.
The team of Charlie Walker & Jimmy Cole weighed in a total of 4 bass at 16.95 lbs on day-2 and collected $450.00 for their 5th place finish. This team did not weigh a bass on Saturday but did not give up and ended up cashing a check.
The 2nd Big Bass of the event was brought to the scales by the team of Shawn Hodges & Mike Needham and was a fine 6.21 lber that netted them a kool $420.00 for that one bite on a senko.
The Championship event generated a catch of 75 bass weighing 225.40 lbs with an average weight per bass of 3.00 lbs.

Nearly all the bass were caught cranking small cranks, or flippin Texas rigs or shakey headed plastic baits in 2-8 ft water all over the lake.
