(Sep. 21, 2009 - Huffman, TX)... The John Benny Rollins Jr benefit event went off out of Lake Houston Marina in Huffman, TX. This event began with 52 teamed anglers showing up to fish for the Goal Post Trophies to raise money for The Rollins family to help defer the expenses of John’s untimely funeral. John passed away on September 11th 2009 from an apparent blood clot from an accident suffered in a 4 wheeler accident on Labor Day. This event began at very safe light, which was 7:00 am. Weigh in was conducted at 1:00 pm. The weather at takeoff was a calm 72 degrees with a warming to about 88 degrees by weigh in time. The fish catching was a bit slow on Lake Mud today as there was only 1 limit brought to the scales, and a total of 31 bass at 65.20 lbs making the average bass brought to the scales today weigh 2.10 lbs.
The team of Mark Rouse from League City, Tx & JB Young from Deerpark, Tx ran Mark’s Ranger/Yamaha bass rig to Luces Bayou to flip tx rigged soft plastics to any sort of visible cover to finish in 1st place with a total that tipped the scales at 11.69 lbs. They anchored their sack with a fine 3.39 lber that was Big Bass of the event. Mark & JB won the donated Custom Built Awards Goal Post and 2 H & H medium heavy fishing rods donated by Josh Heilinger. The winning team Mark & JB donated the Goal Post to John’s 2 twins, 2 1/2 year old Little John & Katie Rollins. There was also 1 more Goal Post donated by Custom Built Awards, awarded to John’s Mom & Dad, Mr & Mrs Rollins graciously accepted.
After weigh in there was a raffle held for all sorts of things from cakes, hand made blankets, Academy gift cards, Gander Mountain gift cards, Tupperware, fragrance set & a new wireless $1400 Laptop. Raffle tickets were sold throughout the day for $20 each and after weigh in, tickets were drawn for the items. The ticket holder had the option to put there winning ticket back in the hopper to be re drawn for an additional $5. This, with the Anglers $100 entry fees proved to be a very good way to raise the Rollins family a total of $4350.00. Chad Vincent from Vincent Turf Farms was the proud winner of the Laptop Computer.
