(Sep. 20, 2009 - Montgomery, TX)... Anglers Quest 2009 Conroe Saturday Series #9 out of El Dorado Jack’s in Montgomery, TX began this event with 28 teamed anglers showing up to fish for the $1890.00 purse. This 9th and final Saturday Series Conroe event of 2009 began at safe light, which was 6:35 am. Weigh in was conducted at 3:15 pm.
This Conroe Saturday Series after all 9 events has provided the father & son team of Julian Clepper III & Julian Clepper II with the "Anglers of the Year" title, they will receive paid entries to all 2010 Conroe Saturday Series events. The Top 25 teams in pounds has qualified for the 2-day Championship on October 24th & 25th on Lake Conroe. A special Top 5 group of teams has qualified to go to the "Tournament of Champions" to be held on November 14-15 on Lake Bob Sandlin and will have a Guaranteed minimum $10,000.00 payout to the winning team. All Anglers Quest Championships include Calcutta auctions which builds the Championship purse to some very nice $$ to fish for, for a small entry fee of $155.00 per team.
Lake Conroe water was in good shape and about 1 foot below normal pool level with water temps ranning 85-86 degrees. The weather at takeoff was a calm 65 degrees with a warming to about 90 degrees by weigh in time. The fish catching was poor on Conroe today as there were only 4 limits brought to the scales, for a total of 40 bass at 129.39 lbs making the average bass brought to the scales today weigh 3.23 lbs.
The team of Shawn Hodges from Friendswood, Tx & Mike Needham from LaPorte, Tx ran Mike’s Skeeter/Yamaha bass rig to south lake areas to catch numerous keepers to finish in 1st place with a total that tipped the scales at 17.80 lbs. They anchored their sack with a fine 6.24 lber that was Big Bass of the event. They used American Rodsmiths rods tipped with 1/2 oz spinner baits & tx rigged 4" worms in 12-15 ft water around rocks. They took home $1070.00 for their day on the water. The team wanted to Thank all the anglers that they fish against and Anglers Quest for putting on the events for them to fish.
The Tiremax team of Tony Murray from Porter, Tx ran his Bowden Marine prepped BassCat/Mercury bass rig from north to south lake areas to catch his 5 bass. Tony reported catching all his bass on American Rodsmiths rods tipped with small cranks in 8-12 ft water around piers & brush. Tony ended the day with 16.02 lbs to finish in 2nd place and collect $600.00 for his day on the water.
The team of David Bozarth from Montgomery, Tx & Wes Schubert from Conroe, Tx ran their bass rig to numerous creeks and finished with 5 bass for a weight of 15.98 lbs. David & Wes finished in 3rd place today and collected 2 bags of ZZ custom lures for their day on the water.
