(Sep. 14, 2009 - Mill Creek Park, Lake Sam Rayburn, TX)... Anglers Quest 2009 Super Team Series Championship is now in the books with Chris McCall & Pete Shivers coming out on top of the 7 events to garner the "Angler of the Year" awards and receive the A/Q AOY Goal Posts. In 2010 the Sam Rayburn Super Team series will not be done, so Chris & Pete were offered all paid entries to the 2010 Saturday & Individual Series events and they accepted.

This Series provided a Championship event for the top 25 qualifiers. The Top 5 and the Championship winning team from this Series will advance to the "Tournament of Champions" which will be held on Lake Bob Sandlin on November 14-15, 2009 and will have 38 teams from all Anglers Quest series go to a very exciting GUARANTEED $10,000.00 to the winner event. All Anglers Quest Championships include Calcutta auctions which builds the Championship purse to some very nice $$ to compete for.

This Championship event began at The Stump Restaurant & Club on Friday evening where a meeting and Calcutta auction took place and raised $4135.00 to add to the angler’s pot. There were 10 American Rodsmiths Limit Stix rods on hand for the auction that was auctioned off to the highest bidders to help raise money for the TOC event.

The anglers were all allowed to trailer to their choice of launch ramps and begin fishing at 6:35 am on both days because of the weather conditions. Saturday, day 1 was a dreary rainy day to be on the water as there was 15-20 mph winds and lots of clouds & rain. with the air temp at takeoff being 66 degrees with a warming to only 76 degrees at weigh in time. The water was at approximately 3 ft below normal pool level with water temps running 84-86 degrees in the main lake. The 14 teams competing were all weighed in by 3:15 pm on Big Sam today as 11 limits were brought to the scales for a total of 63 bass at 158.12 lbs making the average bass brought to the scales today weigh 2.50 lb.

When weigh in was over on day 1 the team of Tommy Hill & Mike Griffin from Kountze, Tx were holding down the 4th spot with 5 bass at 14.48 lbs. The team of Bill Rogers from Jasper, Tx & Brian Branum from Brookeland, Tx were in the 3rd spot with 14.70 lbs. The AOY team of Chris McCall from Jasper, Tx & Pete Shivers from Kirbyville, Tx came to the scales with 15.49 lbs to grab on to the 2nd spot for day 1. The team of Todd Castledine from Nacogdoches, Tx & Justin Buchholz run Todd’s Skeeter/Yamaha bass rig to a flex phantom StrikePro cranking pattern on the north end. They brought 5 bass to the scales that weighed 18.10 lbs to take the lead.

On day 2 Sunday the day was again started with the anglers trailering to their favorite launch ramps to start fishing at 6:35 am. Sunday proved to be about the same as Saturday as far as catching bass. The anglers again brought in 12 limits and 60 bass at 175.67 lbs making the average bass weigh 2.92 lbs.

Bobby LeBert from Brookeland, Tx & Albert Collins from Nacogdoches, Tx run a Skeeter/Yamaha bass rig to numerous outside grass edges in 10 ft depths around the mid lake area to probe an Ole Monster Tx rigged worm on their American Rodsmiths rods to bring in 14.41 lbs to add to their 10.51 lbs from day 1 to amass 24.92 lbs for a 6th place finish. Bobby had a 5.80 lber in their sack for 1st Big Bass of the event that paid back $420.00 for that 1 bite.

The team of Bill Rogers & Brian Branum came to the scales on Sunday to bring in another 5 bass at 15.34 lbs to give them a 2 day total of 10 bass at 30.04 lbs and a 4th place check of $600.00. Hulon Walker purchased their team in the Calcutta and collected an additional check for $625.00.

The team of Alan Moore & Robert Davis from Lufkin, Tx run their Ranger/Evinrude to mid main lake areas with grass to fish 0-10 ft water with their American Rodsmiths rods tipped with tx rigged worms to finish in 3rd place with 10 bass at 35.06 lbs and collect $1100.00 for their days on the water. They did purchase their team in the Calcutta and received another check for $825.00 making them a total of $1925.00 for the weekend. Alan & Robert were quick to give a big thanks to Terry’s Marine & Tri Lake Tackle for their success.

Todd Castledine & Justin Buchholz fished again on day 2 from Todd’s Skeeter/Yamaha using their StrikePro flex phantom cranking pattern that seemed to work in a lot of areas on the lake. They gathered up another 5 bass that tipped the scales at 17.50 lbs to add to their total from day 1 of 18.10 lbs to give them a 2 day total of 35.60 lbs to finish in 2nd place and collect $1400.00. Bob Sealy bought this team at the Calcutta and received $1035.00 for their finish.
