(Aug. 22, 2009 - Montgomery, TX)... Anglers Quest 2009 Conroe Saturday Series #8 out of El Dorado Jack’s in Montgomery, TX began this event with 30 teamed anglers showing up to fish for the $2020.00 purse. The event began at safe light, which was 6:20 am following the playing of the National Anthem. Weigh in was conducted at 3:15 pm. This Conroe Saturday Series after all 9 events will provide the Team Anglers of the year with free entries to all 2010 Conroe Saturday Series events. The Top 25 teams in pounds will qualify for the 2-day Championship in October on Lake Conroe. A special Top 5 group of teams will qualify to go to the "Tournament of Champions" to be held on November 14-15 on Lake Bob Sandlin and will pay a minimum of $10,000.00 to the winning team. All Anglers Quest Championships include Calcutta auctions which builds the Championship purse to some very nice $$ to fish for, for a very small entry fee of $155.00 per team.
Lake Conroe water was in good shape and about 1 ft below normal pool level with water temps ranning 86-90 degrees. The weather at takeoff was a calm 78 degrees with a warming to 99 degrees by weigh in time. The fish catching was pretty good for most today on Conroe as there were 3 limits brought to the scales, for a total of 40 bass at 155.22 lbs making the average bass brought to the scales today weigh 3.88 lb.
The team of Chris Brasher & Kyle Edge from Spring, Tx ran Chris’s Skeeter/Yamaha bass rig to south lake areas to catch numerous keepers to finish in 1st place with a total that tipped the scales at 21.81 lbs. They anchored their sack with a fine 7.09 lber. They used cranks & Texas rigged worms in 10-18 ft water around brush. They took home $1000.00 for their day on the water.
The father & son team of Julian Clepper II & Julian Clepper III from Magnolia, Tx ran Julian’s Champion/Mercury bass rig from north to south lake areas to catch their 5 bass. They reported catching all their bass on American Rodsmiths rods tipped with tx rigged straight tailed worms. They anchored their sack with a fine 8.15 lber and ended the day with 19.62 lbs to finish in 2nd place and collect $500.00 for their day on the water.
The team of David Bozarth from Montgomery, Tx & Wes Schubert from Conroe, Tx ran their bass rig to numerous creeks and finished with 5 bass for a weight of 18.98 lbs. David & Wes finished in 3rd place today and also had the Big Bass of the event, a fine 9.65 lber to allow them to collect $295. for their day on the water.
Charlie Walker & Jimmy Cole brought in 3 bass that tipped the scales at 18.37 to take the first place out of the money prize of 2 packs of ZZ Lures for 3rd place. The entire results from this and all A/Q events put on by Anglers Quest can be viewed at the Anglers Quest website.
Anglers Quest will be at Mill Creek Park on Saturday September 5th for the 9th and final Rayburn Saturday series for 2009. On September 19th A/Q will be back on Lake Conroe at El Dorado Jack’s for the 9th and final Conroe Saturday series event for 2009. Please don’t forget there are 2 events left on Lake Houston Tuesdays and 2 left on Lake Conroe Wednesdays.
