(Jun. 22, 2009 - Montgomery, TX)... Anglers Quest 2009 Conroe Saturday Series #6 out of El Dorado Jack’s in Montgomery, TX began this event with 30 teamed anglers showing up to fish for the $2020.00 purse.
The event began at safe light, which was 5:45 am following the singing of the National Anthem by Sarah McElroy. Weigh in was conducted at 3:15 pm. This Conroe Saturday Series after all 9 events will provide the Team Anglers of the year with free entries to all 2010 Conroe Saturday Series events. The Top 25 teams in pounds will qualify for the 2-day Championship in October on Lake Conroe. A special Top 5 group of teams will qualify to go to the "Tournament of Champions" to be held on November 14-15 on Lake Bob Sandlin and will pay a minimum of $10,000.00 to the winning team. All Anglers Quest Championships include Calcutta auctions which builds the Championship purse to some very nice $$ to fish for, for a very small entry fee of $155.00 per team. Lake Conroe water was in good shape and about 1 ft below normal pool level with water temps ranning 76-80 degrees. The weather at takeoff was a bit windy 78 degrees with a warming to 98 degrees by weigh in time. The fish catching was fair for most today on Conroe as there were 7 limits brought to the scales, for a total of 46 bass at 166.63 lbs making the average bass brought to the scales today weigh 3.62 lb.
The father & son team of Julian Clepper II & Julian Clepper III from Magnolia, Tx ran Julian’s Champion/Mercury bass rig from north to south lake areas to catch & cull from 25 bass to their limit of 5. They reported catching all their bass on American Rodsmiths rods tipped with tx rigged straight tailed worms. They anchored their sack with the 1st Big Bass of the event, a fine 9.08 lber and ended the day with 26.83 lbs to finish in 1st place and collect $1075.00 for their day on the water.
The team of Bryan Stevens from Crosby, Tx & Russell Traylor from Huffman, Tx ran their bass rig to south main lake areas with brush and finished in 2nd with their best 5 bass that tipped the scales at 20.00 lbs. Their day on the water paid back $500.00 for their efforts.
The team of Steve Lee from Conroe, Tx & Ricky Bishop from Willis, Tx ran their bass rig to north & south lake areas to find only 5 keepers to finish in 3rd place with a total that tipped the scales at 18.53 lbs. They used cranks & C-rigged worms in 8-12 ft water around brush. They took home $220.00 for their day on the water.
The Tiremax team of Chris Wilkerson from The Woodlands, Tx & Tony Murray from Porter, Tx ran Tony’s Tiremax wrapped BassCat/Mercury bass rig to numerous creeks and finished with 5 bass for a weight of 18.47 lbs. Tony fished alone today and took the first place out of the money prize of 2 packs of ZZ Lures for 4th place. Anglers Quest will be at Mill Creek Park on Sam Rayburn on Sunday, June 21st for the 6th of 7 Sam Rayburn Super Team Series events. On July 11th Anglers Quest will be at Kickapoo Bait & Tackle on Lake Livingston for the 8th of 9 Livingston Saturday Series events. On July 18th we will be back on Sam Rayburn at Mill Creek Park for the 7th of 9 Saturday Series events. Then on July 26th A/Q will be back at Mill Creek Park on Sam Rayburn for the 7th & final Super Team series event for 2009.
